Courses & Eligibility
There are several courses available in pharmacy offered by institutions across the country. For joining a diploma course one should have completed class 10th examination. Those who want to pursue bachelor program viz. B. Pharm should have completed 10+2 Science with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and/or Biology.

Master’s program and PhD programs are also offered at university level. For master’s program one should have completed B.Pharm and for PhD program one should have completed master’s program in Pharmacy or related field.

Career Prospects
There are ample scopes for pharmaceutical graduates both in public and private sector. They can work in production section in pharmaceutical companies, product marketing, quality control, research, etc. They are also employed by large hospitals and research centres. Pharmacists are also required in hospitals/dispensaries.

There is great demand for pharmacists in western countries also, and many Indians have fared well in this field abroad.

Those opting for D. Pharm. are employed in the above organizations at a lower level, and they also find vast avenues of employment in pharmacies and medical shops.

Those having Diploma qualification in Pharmacy can work as a Pharmacist in Govt/Semi Govt/Private Hospitals. They can also start their own Medical Store.

Bachelor in Pharmacy holders can work as a Medical representative or a medical detailing man or Marketing Managers or a Sales Manager. The earnings of pharmacy professionals are very high. The starting average salary of a pharmacist in government hospital is around Rs.5, 000. Those who are working in manufacturing units get handsome salary apart from other perks and benefits. Medical Representatives also get salary between Rs.5, 000 - 10,000 per month + incentives. Research Scientists who work in research labs and R&D units get Rs.15, 000 - 40,000 per month depending upon their experience.

Advice For Students Entering XI

Entering high school is perhaps the most crucial phase in the life of a teenager. This is the time when you will have to make concrete plans about your future. This will determine the course for the rest of your life.

The moment you enter XI standard, you should take utmost care in the choice of your subjects.
 
i. An ideal thing to do is to consult academicians, relatives and guardians. 

ii. Today, options are not limited to science, maths, commerce or arts. If you are good in maths, physics and any of the fields related to these subjects appeal to you only then opt these subjects. Group Discussions Tips

Group Discussion or GD as is commonly referred to, is akin to a football game, where one has to shine himself/herself as well as take the team along.

A Group Discussion at a B-School is normally a formal discussion involving ten to 12 participants in a group. They are given a topic. After about 3-4 minutes, during which time they (the participants) collect their thoughts, the group is asked to discuss the topic for 20 to 25 minutes. B-Schools use the GD process to assess a candidate's personality traits.

Leadership : The first and foremost quality a candidate should exhibit is leadership qualities in a group discussion. 

a. In a group discussion, the candidate should seize the initiative right from the word go. The key is to be well read on the current socio-political scenario and the economic conditions. 

b. In a group discussion, the candidate has to maintain a pleasing body-language throughout the group-discussion. Habits like playing with pen or shuffling in the seat or making any kind of noise or crossing arms or legs are a strict no-no. 

c. In a group discussion when the time is given to prepare for the topic, the candidate should make sure that he/she makes enough points to last for the entire duration even if some of his ideas are taken up by other candidates. 

d. In a group discussion, the candidate should maintain the lead seized by taking on the initiative. Many a times the contestants initiate the discussion only to lose their fizz next. Either they do not have much to speak after a few minutes or they take to mere coordination. Both the situations should be avoided. Ideally, the initiator should be able to provide leads to the discussion rather than being a mere facilitator. 

e. If some candidate wants to contribute something to the discussion but is not getting a chance, try to involve him in the discussion. On the other hand, if a candidate is unwilling to speak do not push him because it would appear as if you are insulting him/her. 

f. At the same time try to inspire the group for some out of the box solution. However, be sure of the logical culmination of such solution.

Communication Skills 

a. In a group discussion, the power of expressions is at test. In a group discussion, a candidate has to talk effectively so that he is able to convey his thoughts and convince others about them. For convincing, one has to speak effectively. One can be pleasant and yet effectively put forth his view points. Remember you are Not expected to know each and every thing about each and every topic. At the same time, the candidate has to create an impact by effective presentation of his knowledge of the subject. A candidate who is successful in holding the attention of the audience creates a positive impact. 

b. You should have ability to listen as well as. Do not put your point as if you are interrupting somebody. First be sure, what you want to say, bring a coherency in your ideas and then proceed. While putting your ideas, you should appear to continue the discussion and do not attempt to bring a disjuncture in a group discussion. If you attempt at one then be sure to carry that thought to a logical culmination. 

c. In a group discussion, make sure that you are not taking up all the time by stammering or by taking up long pauses. One it creates bad impression and shows lack of confidence and secondly, the moment you do so, the lead may be taken up by some other candidate. 

d. You should address the group as a whole and not appear to be looking to some particular person. 

e. Do not be loud as if appear to scream. At the same time, be loud enough so that everybody hears you clearly. 

f. Do not try to put a fake accent. Be your normal self. Putting up accent often leads to stammering. 

g. Be clear about your ideas before you speak and do not lie about facts and figures. 

h. It is not a war so avoid making personal remarks and overtly aggressive. At the same time be positive and try to seize initiative.

Emotional Quotient 

a. In a group discussion, a candidate must remember to keep his emotions under check. On any given topic, emotions should be kept strictly under check. For e.g. should India go to war with Pakistan? Alternatively, how should Indian Cricket team be dealt with? On topics like these, a balanced view backed up with rationale should be taken rather than being charged up emotionally. These types of questions or topics are designed to test the emotional quotient of the candidate. 

b. The candidate must leave scope for flexibility. If at the last moment, some other candidate come up with a very strong point contradicting your stand then you will be in a fix. So, leave little room for maneuvering. 

c. At the same time try to take, some stand and do not appear to vacillate. This shows that the candidate is lacking in character to take decision.

Preparedness 

a. The candidate must start preparing for group-discussion, just after the written examination. Do not wait till the call-letter. You may not get adequate time. It important to concentrate on subjects of your graduation as well as general knowledge and general awareness. Hence, the prime need for thorough preparation. Remember, the competition is very tough. 

b. It may so happen that you are called for interviews and group discussions from three or four organizations but are not selected by any. The reason obviously lies in your not being well-prepared. 

c. In a group discussion, you may be given a topic and asked to form an opinion on it. Alternatively, in a case study GD, students have to read a case study and suggest ways and means to solve the issue. For this you should have a good general knowledge, you need to be aware of the current affairs, should regularly read newspapers and magazines. Your group behaviour and communication skills are on test, i.e. how you convince the others and how clearly you are able to express your point of view. You should be articulate, generate ideas, avoid being repetitive, should give others to speak, and take a position on a given subject. During the course of the GD this stand can even be changed, giving the impression that you are open to accommodate others' viewpoints.

Resume Tips

A résumé, also known as curriculum vitae (CV), is a document containing a summary or listing of relevant job experience and education, usually for obtaining an interview when seeking employment. "Curriculum vitæ" is Latin meaning "course of life." Often the résumé or CV is the first item that a potential employer encounters regarding the job seeker, and therefore a large amount of importance is often ascribed to it. In other words, a curriculum vita is a marketing tool of a person seeking a job.
 
Most people underestimate the importance of a CV (resume). Many of us put off writing our CV until last moment and do an inadequate job. Others feel that they know it all and treat the job of writing a resume far too casually. Actually, you would be well advised to ensure that both your resume and covering letter are so well prepared that they stand out among a thousand others, not only in content but also in presentation. Any compromises at this stage and you may not be short listed for the interview.

CV - Crucial in getting an Interview

Your CV is your first communication with the perspective employer. It serves as personal advertisement for you and must therefore, be organized in such a manner to make it interesting, attractive, brief and informative. If you wish to be one of the few to be called for an interview, you must ensure your CV is distinct from the hundreds of other CVs of candidates who may be as experienced or as well qualified as you. There are some golden rules to be followed while preparing your CV -  Remember you are advertising about yourself. So, highlight your strong points and try to shield your weaknesses. The prospective employer will call you for an interview if your strengths are highlighted.

Shielding your weaknesses does not mean that you lie. No, do not indulge in misrepresentation of facts. It does not pay dividends.

Essential information including phone number (if possible, mobile) must be included.
Try to keep your CV as brief as possible. At the same time, it should include all vital information about you.

It should contain relevant information about the job, experience etc.
Make sure there are no grammatical errors in your CV. It leaves a bad impression.

There are certain items which must be included in every CV. Other items may or may not be mentioned depending on whether they are relevant or not. The items which must be included are given below :

Personal Information : Name, date of birth, marital status, language known, address, telephone number.

Educational Background : Institutions attended with years, marks obtained, qualifications, achievements, computer literacy.

Employment History : Name of organisation(s), years, designation(s), responsibilities, achievements and training programme attended. Include any part time or summer employment if you do not have any full time experience.

Stick to the Basic Rules

Stick to these proven guidelines for writing a CV : 

The term "Bio-data" is out. Curriculum Vitae (CV) has replaced it. Make sure that your CV is not longer than two pages. It should, at the same time, not be so short that your prospective employer does not know anything about you after going through it. It must be concise and should be informative.

Presentation

• Make sure your CV looks good. Presentation is of utmost importance. You must : 
• Avoid spelling mistakes.
• Use good quality paper.
• Do not send curriculum vitae with spelling errors corrected by whitening fluid or by hand.
• Use proper margins and spend time formatting it properly.
• Send the printed laser outputs instead of photocopying. It may cost you more but it says a lot about you.
• Don't lie even if it is a small lie. Usually such lies are about achievements, grades and marks or summer projects. The personnel departments in most companies do take pains in verifying claims.



References

You may include references at the end of your CV. These are names, addresses and phone numbers of two or three people who could vouch for your character, competence and commitment. Ideally, these should be people who have worked with you, or your college professors. Many job seekers starting out in their careers feel that important people's references will impress prospective employers. Nothing could be further from the truth. A big name will communicate that you are a name-dropper who gets by on his father's contacts rather than achievements. An experienced interviewer will be far more impressed with the references of people who know you professionally. In any case, your prospective employer will check with referees, so make sure you ask your referees' permission before putting their names in your CV.

Use one or at best not more than two typefaces while preparing your CV. If you are looking for visual relief and highlighting then you can use block capitals, italics, bold type, underlining, varying font sizes, or any combinations of these. Choose a font that is simple and easy to read. Do not go in for a fancy typeface. It will take away legibility of your CV.

Don't leave gaps in your CV. If you have lost some years between your +2 and graduation or after your graduation, explain the gap.

A final word : - Be honest in preparing and presenting your CV. Any manipulative presentations are bound to reflect back badly at some point in your career. Do not give any false information about your skills or experiences anywhere in you CV.

Interview Tips

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines interview as ‘formal consultation usually to evaluate the qualifications of a prospective employee’. This means that the path to a job leads through an interview. There are two types of interviews -

a. Where there is only one interviewer or the person evaluating the interviewee. 

b. Where there is a team of interviewers usually consisting of two or more members. These days most of the organizations follow these type of interviews.

Put Your Best Foot Forward

Do not worry about the format. Concentrate on your preparation and creating a good first impression. If you can manage to ride on that first impression then fine, otherwise take care to make your body language reflecting a positive language. Do not forget to carry a smile with a purpose of business. Be confident; try to relax yourself by doing any thing that may soothe your nerves. Remember, if you are relaxed, then you will be able to perform better. Try to listen to your favorite music if possible, or wash your face or read some magazine. The idea is that you remain relaxed and appear to be relaxed. Follow some golden rules - 

1. Do not get nervous. This will not be your last interview. Your life does not depend on this particular interview. 

2. In an interview, honesty is the best policy. If you lie then it leaves a bad impression about you and the interviewer has the knowledge about what he/she is asking. So come what may, do not try to fool the interviewer/s. 

3. Do not look like a flowerpot. This is a formal interview and not a wedding or a fashion show. So, dress formally, use perfume or deodorant to the minimum. 

4. If you smoke, do not smoke prior to the interview. It leaves a bad impression. 

5. Do not be over cautious about your physical looks. Habits like running your hand through your hair is considered bad. Strictly avoid this. 

6. Ensure you do not smell bad. 

7. Make sure to wish every person collectively while you enter and while you leave. 

8. Remember you are not going on a war. Neither the interviewers are at war with you. On the Contrary, the interviewers try their best to make you feel comfortable. After all, they want to judge your capabilities, and that can be done only when you are calm. 

9. Remember, the interviewer is perpetually short of time. In this short duration of 5-10 minutes you have to tell him your positive qualities. Therefore, it is advisable that you prepare extensively for the interview. Secondly, make judicious use of time. For e.g. do not dwell too much on your personal qualities that you may not get enough time to tell about your professional qualities, experience, expectations etc. 

10. Be punctual. It is better to arrive at the venue before time rather than being late. It gives the impression of being a non-serious person.

Tips to prepare for the interview 

1. Remember it is only an interview call and not the joining letter. So, instead of getting elated make sure you prepare well for the interview. 

2. Prepare well in advance what you will and how you will provide information about yourself. Remember when you start speaking 1 minute appears too long. Instead do this, write down a rough note of what you want to convey and keep a watch with you to see how much time you take. Do not take more than 2-3 minutes. On the other hand do not be so short that you stop as soon as you begin. Remember the interviewer has only seen your CV, that too cursorily. Now he will like to know about you from you. Therefore, judicious use of speech is the solution. 

3. Prepare by making a thorough enquiry about the potential employers, the type of organization, and the performance of the organization in your field of expertise. 

4. List the 10 traits associated with the position you are seeking and prepare to demonstrate them during the session. Would creativity, presentation or facilitation skills be important? Ask people who are familiar with the kind of job you are seeking to create short tests that might allow you to illustrate your skills. 

5. Prepare an exhaustive list of questions that may be asked from you. Such a list may appear something of this sort

 What do you know about this particular job and this company? How you came to know? 

 What are your goals; both short term and long term? 

 What are your strengths?

Paper II evaluates knowledge of the Physical Sciences, that is, Physics and chemistry.

Paper III is just Mathematics and nothing else. Do note that not only class 11, 12 but also some components of secondary school mathematics curriculum are included in the questions. The papers are set only in English medium.

Space science or Space Technology

Space science or Space Technology is the branch of science (or engineering) that deals with the study of the Universe, "excluding the Earth" and "outside the Earth's atmosphere". Originally, all of these fields were considered part of astronomy. However, in recent years the major sub-fields within astronomy, such as astrophysics, have grown so large that they are now considered separate fields on their own. The various sub-branches of Space Science are Astronomy, Astrophysics, Cosmology, Stellar Science and Planetary Science etc.

In India, the recently established institute - Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) offers bachelors and masters programs in space science and related fields. Apart from IIST few other institutes including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) also offer specialization programs (M.Tech) in Space Technology, Astrophysics, Aerospace engineering etc.

Courses & Eligibility

Admission into Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is made on the basis of ranks obtained in the Joint entrance Examination conducted by IITs. All the candidates who are placed in the extended list of IIT JEE are eligible to apply in the first phase. The candidates who are qualified with an IIT JEE Rank will be eligible to apply in the second phase (after the completion of IIT seat counseling), provided they have not selected an IIT seat. A combined merit list, using the above, will be generated for counseling for admission.

Rubber Engineering

Rubber is a natural product which is, produced by various techniques to make it useable by various industries for production of different end products. The most essential end product is tyre, right from high tech aircraft tyre and formula 1 car racing to tyre for bicycles. Rubber is processed and then moulded into the required shape. Treated or processed rubber is also used by various other end products like those used in various industries like car decoration etc. 

The branch of engineering that deals with the processing of latex, natural rubber or synthetic rubber to transform them into useful products is known as Rubber Technology.

This subject of study includes the types of rubbers, their properties and descriptions of formulation of rubber compounds.

There are few people in India who are aware of this emerging career option. The country has now about 6,000 rubber units. With the increasing number of automobiles and increasing use of rubber in industries, rubber technology is becoming a lucrative career option for students.

Polymer Engineering

Polymer Engineering uses the theory and knowledge of chemical engineering to solve various problems involving the production and use of polymers. Polymer engineers use the principles of plant design, process design, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena to develop new products.
Polymer engineers also supervise the production process of plastics and other polymers. Under their supervision, plastic moulders and technicians carry out the shop floor manufacturing processes.

In recent times, Polymer has become the most rapidly growing sector of the materials industry. As polymer production has grown, so has the number of people who work in this field. It has been estimated that about 50 percent of the chemical engineers and chemists in the United States work in the polymer industry. Also in India the demand of polymer engineers is increasing with opening of more and more new polymer industries.

Individuals who have completed +2 Science with Physics, Chemistry and Maths will be eligible for pursuing B.E./BTech in Polymer Engineering/Plastic Technology or some other related fields. The selection is made on the basis of entrance examination at state and national level. Plastic Technology Engineering

Petroleum Engineering

Petroleum Engineering is a recent development in the field of technical education which is becoming very much popular among young masses. Petroleum engineers are involved in the exploration and production activities of petroleum which is an upstream end of the energy sector. The study covers a wide range of topics, including economics, geology, geochemistry, geomechanics, geophysics, oil drilling, geopolitics, knowledge management, seismology, tectonics, thermodynamics, well logging, well completion, oil and gas production, reservoir development, and pipelines etc.


With the development of new technology, Petroleum engineering has become very much useful in the extraction process. Improvements in computer modeling, materials and the application of statistics, probability analysis, and new technologies like horizontal drilling and enhanced oil recovery, have also improved the toolbox of the petroleum engineer in recent decades.

Mining Engineering

Metallurgical Engineering

Metallurgical Engineering is an important branch of engineering that deals with the study of the physical and chemical behavior of metallic elements, their inter-metallic compounds, and their mixtures, which are called alloys. The branch can simply be called as the technology of metals.

Metallurgical engineering can be broadly divided into three categories - physical metallurgy, extractive metallurgy, and mineral processing. Physical metallurgy needs problem solving skills. Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is a frontier branch of engineering discipline which involves the application of laws and principles of Physics to analyze, design, manufacture, and maintain the mechanical systems.
